Guimarães is the birthplace of the first Portuguese king and it was the first capital of Portugal. There is situated Pousada Santa Marinha – a converted 17th century Augustinian convent.

Bragança in the 15th century. Next to the church is the Museum Alberto Sampaio which shows beautiful exhibits. Guimarães also offers beautiful handicraft and embroidered table cloths.
