Pousada Flôr Da Rosa (Crato, Alentejo)
A former palace, convent and castle built during different periods, resulted in this architectural masterpiece. Pousada Flor da Rosa is situated in the Alentejo region of Portugal. The “Pousada” has accommodation in the restored fortress of the order of the Hospitaller Knights. This inspiring building was built for the order which was founded in the 14th century. The gardens remain as the original design and are laid out in the design of the Cross of Malta. The building is steeped in history and has magnificent vaulted ceilings and medieval cloisters.

The “Pousada” has luxuriously appointed guest accommodation. Facilities include restaurant, bar, terrace, swimming pool, snooker, games room and parking. In the restaurant, the best of modern and traditional cuisine can be enjoyed in an unforgettable setting.

The small village of Crato is famous for its pottery. Approximately 20Km to the East is the walled town of Portalegre, near the Spanish border. Portalegre is the centre for tapestry production and silk weaving (the internationally well known tapestry of Portalegre). Alter do Chão (12Km South of Crato) is famous for its Royal Stud Farm founded in the 18th century by king Dom Joao V. The beautiful Lusitanian horse breed is highly sought worldwide – they are also the Lisbon Riding School’s favourites. Activities such as hunting, fishing, golf, falconry shows, carriage tours and horse riding are available.
