Tavira is a very typical city in the Algarve and it has been influenced by many civilizations: it was once a Phoenician village, it was inhabited by the Romans
and it was an important city during the Muslim occupation. The region is characterised by many sunny days. There are many beaches in the area and a variety of water sports available. Tavira market and the Antiques Fair are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Interesting places to visit in the area include the Roman bridge, the Moorish Castle, the Museum and the Ria Formosa Natural Park. There are also wonderful golf courses.
